We don’t need to charge you VAT on certain products if you are able to complete a simple declaration at the checkout.
How to order VAT-free
All you need to do is complete a simple declaration at the checkout. You don’t need a medical certificate and it is up to you to decide whether you qualify. If you are a carer, you can claim on behalf of someone else.
Products you can buy VAT-free are clearly shown on our website with the VAT-free price as well as the price with VAT. The cost shown in shopping cart may include VAT, but this swill be recalculated at the checkout when you complete your details claiming the VAT relief.
The VAT rate is calculated on a product-by-product basis, so if you order some that are eligible for relief and some which are not, we charge each product at the appropriate rate.
Who qualifies for VAT relief?
If you are disabled or have a long-term illness, you can buy certain products VAT free. For VAT purposes, you’re disabled or have a long-term illness if:
- you have a physical or mental impairment that affects your ability to carry out everyday activities, including difficulty in walking or bathing.
- you have a condition that’s treated as chronic sickness, like diabetes
- you are terminally ill
You don’t qualify if you’re elderly but able-bodied, or if you’re temporarily disabled (e.g. recovering from hip replacement).
Which products qualify for VAT relief?
Products that can be supplied VAT free are clearly marked on our web site. It’s not everything and we have to abide by the VAT regulations and classification. Products that can be supplied VAT-free are items designed or adapted for a disability such as:
- Mobility aids
- Bathing aids
- Toileting aids
- Continence products
- Some daily living aids
